We experience unseasonably warm weather in SA on a regular basis, which is unfortunately often a factor
in rabbit deaths. If you have unexplained deaths, please seek a qualified veterinary autopsy, to rule out calicivirus.
Vaccination against calicivirus in rabbits is still the most important means of protection and
control against this horrible disease.
It is important to remember to give booster shots. Immunity to a single injection at 12 weeks of age
lasts reliably only for about 10-11 months. This may be the reason losses are sometimes seen in vaccinated animals -
they were vaccinated too long ago.
For further information on rabbit vaccinations - please contact your local veterinary surgery.
